Anyone? Anyone? Bueller?

How are ya'll doing with your challenge?? Anyone have any recipes they want to share?? I can tell you what NOT to make - the Almond Muffins on the Paleo Menu page. Yuck.

Anybody facing any challenges? Fridays? Breakfast? Cooking?

I'm finding that athletes that are training get to eat way more food (potatoes) than regular folk. I followed the Paleo Diet for Athletes for 2 - 90 minute races and PR'd in my swim and run. My bike was pretty good for not training.....at all. It works!! I will retest it out this weekend for a 12k run.

Let us know how it's going! Enquiring minds want to know. :)

  1. So I've done a full week with only 1 cheat meal last week. Tomorrow will be a cheat day. I feel pretty good, my sleep is better. I have been eating like a horse so my weight really hasn't changed. I missed the workouts Christina put up because of work but I PR'd a workout this week that I did about a month ago when I was not paleo'ing. I think I need to start doing the potatoes post workout.

  2. I fell of the wagon Friday night. Woke up with that insulin hang-over that they talk about. Got a bit tired towards the end of last week. But I do have better nights sleep. Have no problems with the fruit and veggies and for the most part feel really good. I do have my challenges. Just need to plan for them ahead of time.

  3. I'm doing okay, but have stumbled a few times here and there. For the most part I'm avoiding diary & gluten and sugars etc. But, I couldn't resist some homebrew last night, so I had a bottle of Dunkelweizen. It washed down my big paleo salad wonderfully.

  5. Jason, the pictures of beer next to your name are not helping my efforts. :P I think I mentioned it before, but I'm doing three cheat meals instead of eating crap for a whole day so I don't feel sooooo miserable for soooo long. My cheating is mostly alcohol(wine). Paleo margaritas are yummy! Tequila, lime juice and club soda.
I did Fran as Rx'd for the first time ever yesterday and my sleep is AWESOME.
Jeromy, do you have the Paleo for Athletes book? It's really helpful or follow my crazy notes below.

  6. Harj. I have the athletes book. I've been using a small amount of whey protien with OJ before and after my workouts. The whey I found seems to be pretty clean. I just started eating sweat potatoes after my workouts also in the form of frozen hash browns. I PR'd my snatch today at 175 after a cheat day so maybe this diet thing works. In a week or two I may try 3 cheat meals a week instead of 1 day but I'm worried I may go overboard on the meals.

  7. Great job you guys!!! Interesting, I tried some sweet potatoes this week too. Frank was happy to see potatoes on his plate!! That German mentality... meat and potatoes!! My kids are conforming o.k. but I get them some treats and boy they sure appreciate them more now!!!!

Well, I think I'm eating TOO MUCH FAT!!!! You know it is good fat, but , still too much. Almond butter, sunflower seed butter, coconut butter, yum!! No weight loss!!!

As far as the recipes, I found a paleo gluten-free site that I really like. www.elanaspantry.com . Tried the brownie and carrot muffin recipe with great response. Hmmmm, maybe I'm having too much fun trying those recipes!!!

Yes, the sleep is like a baby. Some people find they do better on less carb blocks if trying to follow Zone portions. This is what Robb Woff suggested at his nutrition seminar. I find that I feel better on less carbs.

Jeromy, you can come in Sunday night and catch up on those 3 WODS if you want!!!! I bet you could do all 3 in an hour!!! JK
    1. max effort deadlifts 5 attempts
    2. 400m run, 500m row 5X
    3. "Fran"

Congrats Grumpy CaveWoman!!!! Now you've graduated to Wonder Woman!!!!!!!!!!

  8. Sure Christina, I will make all the workouts in an hour. I guess I would definitely PR the next time if I did that. I bonked on today's workout...not sure why, maybe dehydrated.

  9. Ummm so I'm not so sure about testing out the Paleo for athletes this weekend. I ran out of food and haven't had time to go to the grocery store and my Paleo is falling apart. :( I will try to get back on track at least for race day nutrition. I used to go to the grocery store once a month, I feel like I have to go twice a week now! Real food sure goes bad fast!

  10. I know what you mean Harj! I'm always at the store!! About every other day for veges! I broke down and got the kids some bagels.Still enforced the meat though!

How did the race go Harj?

Anybody got some fabulous recipes? Great results already? Just curious. Discovered that "Kind" bars are my favorite paleo bar.

  11. My race went pretty well but I shouldn't have run since I was sick and made it worse. :( Still, I was running 8 min/mile (a record pace!!) for 4 miles until my calf and knee gave me problems. I ended up with a pace of 9 min/mile for a 7.45 mile race! Pretty darn good! I was totally paleo for my race nutrition and then went to Gordon Biersch for a beer, burger and fries for my post race nutrition. :)

I LOVE Kind bars but be careful, some of them have peanuts and other legumes.

Halloween is a challenge for me. Too much candy everywhere!! :( I made the baked banana dessert in the Paleo for Athletes book and added unsweetened coconut = yummy!
